How MyTacklebox works
Log fish, earn points, climb levels, collect badges. That is the whole game — here is the math behind it.
10 (catch) + 2.5 × 2 (weight) + 0 (likes) = 15 points
10 (catch) + 7.5 × 2 (weight) + 12 (likes) = 37 points
10 (catch) + 12 × 2 (weight) + 20 (likes) = 54 points
Weekly points use the same formula but only count catches and likes from the last 7 days — that is what the This Week leaderboard ranks.

Your level never drops — points are career totals. Watch the progress bar on your profile to see how far the next title is.
Your logbook is yours. Your spots stay yours. Here is the whole promise in plain words:
- Public — the default. Shows on the feed, your profile, species totals, search, and the leaderboards. Points and badges come from public catches.
- Followers only — only you and anglers who follow you can see it, on the feed and your profile. It never appears in the species index, search, leaderboards, or anyone else's pages.
- Only you (private) — just you. It stays in your logbook and in your export, and nowhere else.
- Followers-only and private catches are excluded from every public page, aggregate, and leaderboard — species counts, biggest-catch records, search, and notifications never show them, even in a total or a number.
- Private catches earn no points, and likes on hidden catches do not count either — that way nothing about a hidden spot can leak through a score. Log your honey-hole privately and your public fishing life stays public.
- Your data is yours to leave with: Settings has a one-click export of every catch (CSV or JSON) and every photo (ZIP), private ones included.
What are the photo upload rules?
JPG or PNG only, up to 8 MB, and at least 50×50 pixels. The photo must be a real, readable image — a catch card needs a photo, and your avatar is optional.
What counts as a species?
You type the species yourself, so use the common name — "Largemouth Bass", not "the green one". The Species page groups catches case-insensitively by exact name, so consistent spelling keeps the index clean.
What units does MyTacklebox use?
US units only: weight in pounds (lbs), length in inches (in). Points math is based on pounds.
Do points ever go away?
No. All-time points never decrease, and your level is permanent. The This Week board resets naturally every 7 days, but your career totals keep growing.
